Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important official said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
